User Reviews about Panasonic VIERA G1 Series TC-L37G1 37-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV

I, like most, had an entertainment center cabinet that was custom built and was designed for an older 31" CRT TV with a big housing. The opening is EXACTLY 36" wide, and so you would either have to size down the TV you pick for that opening when moving to LCD, or find a TV that's well designed and has a very narrow frame.

This TV is near perfect - at a large 37" screen, the width is less than 36" and fits absolutely perfectly. More important, I didn't compromise on the quality of the picture, either, and I couldn't be happier. The fit into my entertainment center in my cabin is perfect, the screen is larger than most of my other options, and the picture in HD quality is great.

I'm sure there are better options out there for the money if you don't have a size restriction, but if you're trying to fit a TV into a 3' piece of furniture, save yourself the searching that I (and others that rated this TV) did. This one works, and works VERY well! -- LCD TV review
I ordered this from Amazon Werehouse Deals, it stated it was factory sealed with slight box damage only so it sounded like a great deal. A week later I received it from UPS, the box was very worn but the worst part is that it had 5-6 past return labels that were just marked off, so you can tell this unit had been returned before! there was a new stand, new remote, new everything but the TV was not new, it had some finger prints and when I tried to turn it on it flash for 2 seconds and turned off...it was defective. I was very upset since I took the day off work to wait and set this baby up but that didn't work. The build quality which is what my review is pretty much about (and amazons werehouse deals) was just ok. I hated how the screen feels pushed in but the manual stated that this is normal, and it doesn't look like an ISP panel. Compared to my new 42 Samsung Plasma I just ordered after returning this, the Panasonic LCD looked very cheap, I never got to see it in action though so I wont judge the picture quality. Werehouse deals refunded me 100% and it was easy to return it since they are run by amazon, but be warned you might be better buying a brand new unit or something else. -- build quality is a bit disappointing
I did quite a bit of research before buying this Panasonic model as there are quite a few cheaper 37" sets available, most only 720p and with a weak viewing angle. We already owned the 26" model, bought for the kitchen, in addition to some other electronics from this company. This model was used for an over-the-fireplace installation and the 37" width was a perfect fit for the flu surround, which is 37" wide! The HD picture is fantastic and it even upgrades the images with older DVD's and VCR tapes. For an LCD set the off-angle viewing is excellent, especially watching HDTV or with newer DVD's. Easy setup right out of the box. Coupled with the Panasonic Blu-ray surround system (model SC-BT300), which gives you plenty of noise for the money, we are now enjoying living room home theater that cost around $1000. This would have been a 5-star review but for two categories, TV sound and Portability, I could not give the highest rating. In fact, Portability is not even a factor. The TV sound is adequate for a medium to small room but surround sound is the way to go for the total home theater experience. Highly recommended. -- Great TV
I purchased this because it's the only major-producer 37" LCD that fits into the enclosure we have. Almost all the others are slightly wider. And, of course, Panasonic has an exceptional reputation, as well as reviews on this site.

Everything about the TV is exceptional, except for the picture, which I'd rate only "very good". Compared with the 46" Sony Bravia we bought four years earlier, there is no contest, and I think this must be a function of the reduced size. Perhaps 37" simply isn't in the 'sweet spot' for sets like this. This is especially surprising, since the Sony is 60Hz and 720p, while the Panasonic is 120Hz and 1080p, which should theoretically render it far superior.

So, although I'm delighted by the sound, portability, and interoperability of the set, the picture is just a little bit of a disappointment, judged by the highest standards. Then again, it could be that all other 37" sets would be similarly disappointing. I simply have no basis for judgment. -- Very Good, if you must have a 37" LCD
We were looking for the 37"S1 but they are all sold out. We have not owned any Panasonic TV and took the chance of ordering the G1 and we are satisfied.
The only problem we have is using the universal remote from our cable company with the TV and the Blu-ray DVD player we just bought. I determined that we are not quite familiar with the other devices interfacing with the TV. That it will come with experience. -- More than Satisfied with this purchase!
